Stiefel will take the helm officially on Aug. 27, replacing Mark Barnett, who will complete his assignment on Aug. 15.
Before taking over as assistant principal in Chappaqua, Stiefel served as an eighth-grade social studies teacher at the East Side Middle School in Manhattan. He comes to the district with a masters degree in Teaching Secondary Social Studies from Fordham University. He also has a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Long Island University.
The Board of Education said that they conducted a search process that began in July, which included interviews of several qualified candidates. They noted that “throughout the process, Stiefel demonstrated a deep understanding of middle school education and a strong motivation to join the Tuckahoe School Community.”
Schools Superintendent Carl Albano said that he “believes (Stiefel’s) knowledge of education and leadership skills, combined with his many years of experience as the assistant principal of a high performing middle school will serve him well as the next leader of Tuckahoe Middle School.”
